Online Religious Intolerance Experiences

November 5, 2010

Have you had one?

I have been a victim of online religious intolerance in more than one occasion. Since then, I have reduced my interaction with the world on the Web, especially on Websites where one can have and share dialogues with people of other faiths and backgrounds. One of those incidents that had nearly got me into a state of complete depression was a conversation on a blog owned by an American Islamophobe called Daniel Pipes, who thinks that all Muslims are brown.

Racial Profiling in America

The Islamophobes on his blog did not believe that I was a Muslim woman who enjoys her life and is proud to follow Islam. They addressed me as a woman who is smothered by Sharia and they accused me of lying when I wrote that I am a young woman who finished her higher studies and that I got a job. They could not believe that a Muslim woman can choose to study and work. More than that was said and accusations against me and Islam were more appreciated than the facts that I presented to them. It was useless to argue. It continued for days and my mental state was getting worse. Later I decided to leave the online world.

But, my love for my religion and my sense for duty to protect it grew and I believed that the efforts of a few can do a great change. No matter what happens, I will use this blog as a window for the rest of the world so people with open minds can settle down and ponder.

Blindness is an enemy to mankind. Let their be light in our lives.

On the Topic of Taqiyya

October 15, 2010

I have come across the topic of Taqiyya a few years ago when I read an online discussion by a group of Islamophobes about the supposed danger of Taqiyya on non-Muslims. I joined the discussion and explained what Taqiyya is. The discussion took many diversions and the Islamophobes made fun of me and affirmed that I was a pathetic oppressed woman who needed to be rescued from Islam.

Anyway, I have not practiced Taqiyya because I see no need for it. I am not afraid to say that I am a Muslim. I am not afraid of wearing my Hijab. I am not afraid of practicing Islam outside the UAE. If I find that being a Muslim would put my life in an immediate danger, I will hide my belief. Somewhere in this world Muslims may resort to practicing Taqiyya to stay alive.

There is, then, a great distinction between pure lying and Taqiyya.

It really is useful!

I am very excited to have discovered Alim. It is a new free beta service for Muslims and non-Muslims to study and explore Islamic resources including the Quran and Prophetic Hadiths:

Alhamdolillah, the mission of the Alim Foundation / Alim.org is, to:

  1. Launch the creation of diverse Islamic knowledge to anyone who can tie it to classical sources: Al-Qur’an and Ahadith
  2. a.   Expand the understanding of Al-Qur’an and Ahadith beyond a privileged class
    b.   Foster distribution of smallest enhancements of authoritative knowledge to a broader audience.

  3. Create an online social network for thinking Muslims who care about Islamic knowledge and not Islamic conjecture
  4. a.   Give Muslims a way to trust in their own knowledge by allowing them to share their beliefs with other Muslims that have similar knowledge.
    b.   Help foster the idea that Imam’s knowledge can be complemented and enhanced by fellow Muslims.

  5. Provide technology and professional services to organizations that serve Islam & Muslims
  6. a.   Connect organizational guidance and documents to classical Islamic sources

Regarding 9/11 & Eid Al-Fitr Coincidence

August 31, 2010

Ibnat al-Hidayah has cleared everything up regarding Eid Al-Fitr which is a festival celebrated to break the 30-day fast during Ramadan, and she also clarified the misconceptions held by some in that we build Masjids only on holy sites.

Of course, I am not excited that Eid Al-Fitr coincides with the 9/11 anniversary this year. And, I really do see the importance of expanding one’s knowledge regarding others’ faith at such a time.

I only have one thing to say regarding this matter:

Al-Qaeda, damn on you.

Study Islam Online at SunniPath Academy

August 23, 2010

Study Islam Online at SunniPath Academy

I was browsing the Internet and I came across SunniPath Website. It is an online academy for studying Islam and the Arabic language:

The Prophet Muhammad (God bless him and give him peace) said:

“Whenever God wishes well for someone, He gives them deep understanding of the religion” [Bukhari, 71; Muslim, 1037].

SunniPath is dedicated to the effective transmission of reliable and relevant religious knowledge.

Our knowledge is reliable because our teachers have been formally trained and authorized to transmit knowledge by leading scholars of the Muslim heartlands. They are meticulous in their conformity to the time-honored orthodoxy of Sunni Islam while sensitive to the circumstances of Muslims living in the modern world.

Our knowledge is relevant because we focus on conveying beneficial knowledge in a positive manner that inspires students and encourages practice. We do not engage in argumentation, nor are we interested in the academic approach of seeking knowledge for its own sake.

Our method of transmission is effective because we implement the principles of traditional Islamic education using the latest techniques of online learning to connect students all over the world with qualified teachers.

I believe many will find it good in learning about Islam.

Spending Time Attacking Muslims

August 22, 2010

There are waves of blogs and Websites, as well as forums, dedicated to attacking Islam and its followers. I do not like to search for them, I mean I am not of that type who searches for the hate speech to feel the pity. I, sometimes, do stumble upon some when surfing the Internet.

And what I try to not to read, but I end up reading, is simply very heinous to the mind.

I just have understood the easiness of the principle of attack. It seems that attack is easier than defense, or to the matter it is preferable to searching for the truth.

What a waste of their time.

What are They Afraid of?

August 21, 2010

Open Google and read the blogs.

Have you noticed that anything related somehow to Islam always has to come on the first page?

Of course, they are not always good reads.

What are they writing about?

About their fear? Fear of what? Fear of Muslims walking around, or fear of Muslims multiplying in number?

Are their fears real? Must they be afraid?

Am I a beast in disguise?

I just keep on wondering …

A Difficult Time for Muslims

August 18, 2010

There are so much things I want to write about right now, but I do not know where to start and what to say.

I am very sad. Although I am an ordinary Muslim woman living a happy normal life, I still feel sad. I am feeling sad for what is happening in this world. I have not thought in my childhood that one day I will be hated just because I am Muslim.

Being a Muslim, I am shocked to read about what non-Muslims think, or rather, believe about us and about Islam. Just reading what they have in mind makes you think they are living in isolation, or more correctly they are living in their own world. I do not know. How do they learn about us? Where do they get their information? Are they really researching about Islam, or are they just depending on the propaganda in the media to get their information about other people?

To my dismay, some still attack Muslims when the latter present them with the truth and offer correct information about Islam. Are we speaking in a vacuum? Why not listen to the Muslims? Yes. There are bad Muslims, but what do other Muslims have to do with those evildoers?

Evildoers, of every religious, political, and racial background, have been known since the beginning of humanity. Only Muslims, today, are all portrayed as evil!

Muslims are facing hate and racism worldwide, even on the Internet. You wake up in the morning with a happy face, open the laptop, check the news, and then you wear a sad face, close the laptop and stare into the space.

What have I done to be hated?
