Can Someone Die from a Broken Heart?

December 5, 2010

I was intrigued by this question suggestion by Google:

Can someone die from a broken heart?

And I found that some persons with a broken heart can die:

Broken heart syndrome (BHS) often occurs after the loss of a loved one. Although the condition appears in ancient and modern literature, broken heart syndrome first gained recognition as a physical illness in the early 1990’s. Symptoms of broken heart syndrome include chest pain, shortness of breath, insomnia and depression.

Although it may be mistaken for a heart attack, broken heart syndrome is an inflammatory heart disease. The heart muscle weakens, and the apex of the left ventricle swells, constricting blood flow. The left ventricle is the major pumping mechanism of the heart.

The Goodness of Mixed Berry Juice

July 23, 2010

So, it is summer, and I have suffered bladder infection. Not good.

I read somewhere before that berry juice can help prevent and cure bladder infections. Tammy Elizabeth Southin says:

According to research conducted at Rutgers University in New Jersey, blueberries can help you fight bladder infections (cystitis).

This type of infection can wreak havoc with your urination, by causing bladder pain, blood in your urine (in cases of severe infection), and giving you tremendous urges to urinate, only to find a tiny amount of urine comes out.

The researchers found that blueberries can effectively prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) such as bladder and kidney infections.

This berry, like the cranberry, contains compounds called proanthocyanidins that keep E. coli (the bacteria responsible for most UTIs) from attaching to the cells in the walls of the urinary tract.

So, I bought some fresh mixed berry juice. After a day of drinking one cup, the inflammation began to lessen. Now, I am drinking another cup, just in case.

Thank you, berries.
